Our Love Story

Jeremiah Philips and Alexis Smith crossed paths 14 years ago through their mutual church communities and first connected as mere acquaintances. However, after years of running into each other at church functions, a friendship blossomed organically. Jeremiah recognized that Alexis was more than just a beautiful girl but she also carried an infectious joy and an inner light that always seemed to brighten up the room. Alexis was drawn to Jeremiah’s full-of-life personality and easily gravitated toward him and his parents. Not to mention, she genuinely admired his dad and enjoyed their conversations. Jeremiah had no idea his dad thought Alexis would have been perfect for him if their circumstances were different.

Unfortunately, as more and more time passed without seeing each other, what had once seemed like a promising friendship slowly leveled off.

Fast forward to 2020, Jeremiah and Alexis reconnect on social media. Jeremiah became interested in Alexis’ nonprofit work in New Orleans and decided to reach out to learn how he might bring her community events to Baton Rouge. One business conversation led to another... led to a meetup... led to him inviting her to be his date for a friend’s birthday dinner. The next day, they found themselves on a second date. The day after, they went on a third date. Within a week, they’d been on four dates! It was then, only after a week, that it came to Jeremiah: “I’m going to marry her!”

From that day forward, their story has been one led by God of love, triumph, travel and growth together.
